What is CDL Membership?

The CDL Home Security Membership is our answer to the question we get more than any other: "Can you just make sure my locks stay good, without me having to think about it?"

For a flat monthly fee, we come to your home once a year to inspect every lock, deadbolt, strike plate, hinge screw, and smart-lock battery. If something is loose, worn, or misaligned, we fix it on the spot — no charge. You get one free rekey per year (or more, depending on your plan), priority dispatch when you call, and 15% off any new install. Home+ and Small Biz members also get Vacation Watch and a New Neighbor Kit.

Plans start at $14.99/month. You can cancel any time — no penalty, no pressure phone call. If you move mid-year, we transfer your membership to your new address for free (as long as it's inside our Denver south metro service area).

What's covered vs. what's billable. Membership covers routine maintenance, one-tier rekeys, and priority dispatch. It does not cover new hardware, high-security cylinder upgrades, safe openings, or car-key programming — but you get 15% (Home/Home+) or 20% (Small Biz) off any of those add-ons. If you're not sure whether something is covered, call and ask before we come out. We'll tell you straight.

Sign up in one call

Call (720) 299-9964 and ask for the membership program. Sarah walks you through the three tiers, answers questions, and gets you enrolled. Payment on file with any card — Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover, Venmo, or Zelle for annual.

Welcome kit arrives

Within 3–5 business days you get a small envelope in the mail: your membership card, a printed benefits sheet, our direct-dial sticker for your junction box, and (for Home+ and Small Biz) a decorative "protected by CDL" window decal you can put in your front window or business door.

We call to schedule your annual inspection

Within two weeks we call you to book your first inspection — a 45-minute visit at a time that works. No hard-sell. If something needs attention, we fix what's covered and give you an itemized quote for what isn't. You approve before anything gets touched.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Cancel by phone or email any time — no penalty, no cancellation fee, no "retention specialist" callback. Monthly plans stop at the end of the current billing period. Annual plans are refunded pro-rated to the day (we simply keep the value of benefits you've already used at the going non-member rate).

We designed the plan this way on purpose. If you're not getting value, we'd rather you leave happy and come back later than trap you.

What happens if I move?

Two things. First, we'll transfer your membership to your new address for free, as long as it's inside our Denver south metro service area (Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Lone Tree, Castle Rock, Parker, Englewood, Littleton, and adjacent).

Second, if you're on Home+ or Small Biz, we'll perform a free New Neighbor Kit rekey at the new address as part of the transfer — one of the most-loved features of the plan.

If you move outside our service area, we'll help you find a reputable independent locksmith in your new city, and refund any unused portion of your annual plan.

Does it include emergency lockouts at 3 AM?

Yes — with a caveat about after-hours surcharge.

On Home, you get priority dispatch on 3 AM lockouts and a reduced after-hours surcharge (roughly half the non-member rate).

On Home+ and Small Biz, the after-hours surcharge is fully waived. You pay the same for a 3 AM lockout as you would at 2 PM on a Tuesday.

Note: our published hours are 7 AM to midnight. After midnight is a genuine emergency response — we ask that members reserve it for actual emergencies (locked out with a child or pet inside, break-in, etc.) rather than a "left keys at a friend's" situation.

What's actually covered vs. billable?

Covered: your annual (or quarterly) inspection, the free rekeys built into your tier, strike-plate and hinge-screw tightening, smart-lock battery labor, Vacation Watch checks, New Neighbor rekey.

Discounted (15%–20% off): any new hardware — deadbolts, smart locks, high-security cylinders, panic bars, keypads, mailbox locks.

Not covered: safe openings, car-key programming, forensic lock changes after a break-in with police report, and major hardware replacement where the underlying door or frame is failing.

Rule of thumb: if a technician can do it in the annual visit with what's already on the truck, it's covered.

How many locks does the annual inspection cover?

All exterior doors on a single-family home: front door, back door, patio slider, garage service door (the one from garage to house), and any side-yard gate lock. That's typically 4–6 lock points.

Interior locks (bedroom door knobs, closets) aren't part of the routine inspection but a technician will happily look at anything you flag while they're there.

Larger properties (5+ bedrooms, multiple outbuildings, guest houses) may be quoted on Home+ or Small Biz — call and ask.

Do you cover my smart lock too?

Yes — inspection and battery labor are covered on any Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August, Kwikset Halo, Level, or similar smart deadbolt. We test the WiFi handshake, cycle the codes, check for firmware updates, and swap batteries if under 40%.

Battery cells themselves are billed at cost (usually $2–8). The labor is free.

For higher-end residential access-control systems (Salto, Aperio, hardwired keypad networks) we can extend coverage under a Small Biz plan — call for a custom quote.

What if I don't use my rekey this year?

Rekeys don't roll over — the plan is priced with a "use it or don't, we're still here" model. But you get one free tier upgrade instead: if you didn't use your rekey in 12 months, you can bank it and use it as a double rekey the following year (up to 12 cylinders at once).

Most members don't need the rekey every year — the peace of mind comes from knowing it's there if a lost key, ex-tenant, or ex-partner situation comes up.

Is this a franchise or corporate membership program?

No. Colorado Dependable Locksmith is a women-owned independent business founded in April 2011 at 2282 Terraridge Dr in Highlands Ranch. Sarah — the owner — designed this membership program herself in 2025 after 14 years of hearing "I wish I'd had you look at these locks before we lost our key" from customers.

There is no national dispatcher, no corporate franchise partner, no out-of-state call center. When you call the membership line, you reach our office in Highlands Ranch.
